Jazz after Hurricane Katrina
Columbia Missourian (11.06.2005)
Shortly after Hurricane Katrina, I pitched this story to my editor in order to assess the cultural damage the disaster had caused. Because I wrote for a relatively small paper in Missouri, however, I had to approach the story from a local angle. I interviewed Columbia musicians, a jazz series director, a music history professor and a record store manager, among others, who had once taken part in the rich New Orleans music scene. The feature story that emerged appraised the past and speculated on the future from diverse, personal points of view.
