Program notes: Beethoven
A professor recommended me to the performing arts center to write these notes for the Takács String Quartet concert because of my interest in “public musicology.”
This task challenged me to delve into the vast amount of scholarship on Ludwig van Beethoven’s string quartets and then fashion three concise, yet comprehensive, portraits of quartets from his early, middle and late composition periods.
Because I was writing for an audience with different levels of music knowledge, I aimed to educate those unfamiliar with Beethoven and to go in depth for those who already knew a great deal about the composer.
*Since the notes were published only in print, I have included the proofed PDF document for viewing.
